Network Support Engineer
 
We are looking for a Network Support Engineer to join our Chicago team to help us support and operate the Ericsson UDN backbone and its datacenters. What would you be working on? Operating, troubleshooting and fine tuning the monitoring platform for a new global MPLS network. This is a unique opportunity to help us shape the support of our global network. Join us working in a startup environment. Below are some other responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting global network on the internet edge, MPLS and datacenter fabric
  • Write and develop operational runbooks and procedures
  • Work with Network Engineering, Operations, Support and other teams on isolating and resolving  problems
  • Work with 3rd party vendors on service impacting issues
  • Identify chronic issues and propose design fixes
  • Participate in RCAs and track follow up items
  • Monitor analytics and reporting system
  • Work on improving the monitoring and visibility into the global network operations
  • Ensure continued smooth operations of the global network infrastructure delivery of CDN and cloud services
  • Handle escalations from tier 1/2 NOC
  • Understand dependencies and failure points within the networking infrastructure and identify steps to correct these issues
  • Participate in a 24/7/365 shift work and/or on-call rotation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3+ years experience as a Network Engineer or Ops/DevOps engineer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Juniper MX, QFX and EX series platforms or equivalent Cisco platforms
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good understanding of BGP, IXPs, OSPF, MPLS, EVPN/VLXAN, IPv6 and working with other ISPs
  • Good LAN and WAN troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of CDNs and content delivery networks a plus
  • Certifications or equivalent knowledge such as CCNP, JNCIS or JNCIP
  • Prior NOC experience a plus

Infrastructure Details
  • Over 20+ Global POP in major metro location within Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
  • Internal network lab in Chicago for testing, staging and training. 
  • Juniper MX480s, QFX10K, EX4300 platforms. 
  • EVPN/VXLAN datacenter fabric within each POP.
  • Operating private MPLS backbone between all POPs.
  • Peering at all major IXPs https://peeringdb.com/asn/47254.
  • New infrastructure with standardized deployment without technical debt.
  • DevOps based approach of the network management.
